SIT-Summer Institute in Taiwan
Academic Exchange & Cultural Experience in Taiwan
Remarks by Dr. Chi-Lu Sun (孫志陸) for Sara Hugentobler

I am pleased to have Ms Sara Hugentobler from Stony Brook University, New York, as an exchange student in my laboratory this summer. Although I was her host for this visit, she spent most of her time staying and working with my former PhD student, Dr. Wei-Chuan Chiang, in the Eastern Marine Biology Research Center, Fisheries Research Institute located at Chenggong township of Taitung County (eastern Taiwan) for collecting and processing the fish species needed for her thesis during July 4 to August 3. She returned to stay in my lab during August 4 to 23. I arranged my master student, Ms Huang to take care of her during her stay.

I discussed with Sara several times regarding to her research and sampling. My lab and Dr. Chiangs center had experience in conducting similar research as Saras although for different species, and Dr. Chiangs center provided her a best environment for collecting samples. Actually, Sara has collected more than 200 samples in such a short time. Also, I introduced Sara to talk with Dr. Wang, an associate professor in our Institute, who has Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer to do the stable isotope analysis.

I believe that Sara has successfully achieved her goal as an exchange scholar and has opened the doors for further research and collaboration between the United States and Taiwan as she expected for this trip (Please see attached file for her report).
