SIT-Summer Institute in Taiwan
Academic Exchange & Cultural Experience in Taiwan
Wei-Jen Chen_陳韋仁
This is Dr. Wei-Jen Chen, assistant professor from National Taiwan University, writing the report for Mac Chambell’s visit in my lab at Institute of Oceanography, NTU.

Mac firstly contacted me last summer to present his wish to apply for an East Asia Pacific Summer Institutes program (known by Summer Institute Program in Taiwan) as an exchanged student working in my lab in summer of 2012. Since then, we have started to exchange our ideals for the research.

During his 7 weeks stay here, he carried out, with great success, the project entitled “Testing for Monophyly of the Pleuronectiformes (Flatfish)” under my supervision. A manuscript based on the results obtained by him and by my lab members is now in preparation for the submission to Systematics Biology.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure to meet and teach many students in four different countries. Mac is one of those who give me a brilliant impression. I have a great pleasure to share my research experiences with. He is gifted with good analytical ability in bioinformatics and evolutionary biology. In the lab, he was responsible for his work, and showed organization skills and ability to work individually and in teams. I believe he will be a highly successful student and scientist in the future.
