Being an SITer for four years definitely has been one of the best parts of my graduate school life. I have been an SIT staff member every year since 2007. I kept returning to the program every year because of the fantastic experience I was having with the very cool SIT participants as well as SIT staff. I’d like to thank National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan National Science Council, NSF (United States) and NSERC (Canada) for holding this wonderful program.

Our school and the Extracurricular Activity Section have always been very supportive. We’ve always had brilliant staff to plan the activities so that the SIT participants from the U.S. and Canada can get to know Taiwan really well during the orientation week. I love working with SIT staff because they are all full of energy and passion. We love to share our culture with participants. For example, we plan something very exciting and rewarding for the participants during the orientation week. We would go to the night market, beautiful temples, and lovely countryside. The layout of the events is a bit different every year, but we plan the best schedule for the participants not only to learn Mandarin Chinese, but also to taste (or smell) the real Taiwan! We call it Formorsa, the beautiful island. And we are truly honored to have the chance to host the orientation and bring the best scenery, people, cultural experience from Formosa to our SIT friends.

This orientation is absolutely one of a kind. During this week, we build up friendships with the participants and we become really, really good friends. We know what it is like to be abroad and therefore love to share and care about our participants. We are very glad to be part of this cool orientation week. A lot of SIT staff keep coming back to help and to meet friends. I think this pretty much explains how awesome this program is!
